Fire Fighting Foams:
A Fire Fighting Foam is a mass of small bubbles formed on or in liquid that have a lower density than oil .Fire fighting foams have been effectively used in fire protection for over half a century. Fire Fighting foams were a positive development in extinguishing oil fires .In this time the technologies used in formulating and discharging foam have evolved and increased in their effectiveness. Fire Chem have attempted to address this by providing new formulations, and stressing the improved environmental benefit of these formulations. However as with all foams they are capable of impacting on the environment under certain conditions. Measures should therefore be adopted to dispose of foams responsibly in accordance with relevant liquid waste disposal regulations. Biodegradation is a key component in diminishing the ecological load or trouble connected with the high volume utilization of surfactant chemicals.FireChem Fire Fighting Foams are non–toxic, environmental friendly, harmless and are suitable for use in both fresh and salt water.

Fire Fighting Foams and Systems:
FireChem offers several types of fire fighting foams that includes AFFF, AR-AFFF, High Expansion Foams, Protein Foams, Fluoroprotein Foams and much more. Each of these fire fighting foams are utilized for different purposes or due to standards and specifications that require their use in specific systems. Fire fighting foams are normally used for fixed- facility systems or on crash-fire rescue trucks in locations where fuel-pool fires are expected. When used in fixed-facility systems, the design should incorporate a diversion or a containment structure that will collect or treat the foam prior to removal or release. In this way the foam will be prevented from entering the environment. The properly designed system and standard procedures therefore helps in protecting environment also.

Whether used in fixed-facility systems or on crash fire rescue vehicles, mitigating the environmental impacts created by fire fighting foams is best accomplished through careful planning and management. This may include WWTP (Waste water treatment plant), A WWTP may require foam-water solution to be diluted in advance. The US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that the concentration of any foam-water solution in the total volume of WWTP influent should not exceed 1700 parts per million (ppm).
For example, foam-water solution could be discharged at the rate of 7 gallons per minute (gpm) to a 6 million gallon per day. The difficulties of metering such a low rate of discharge can be overcome by diluting the foam-water solution by 10 or 20 to 1, permitting discharge rates of 70 or 140 gpm respectively.

Foam Concentrate:
FireChem manufactures Fire Fighting foam concentrate that is highly effective against the extinguishment of Class B fires .Foam Concentrate that may need to be disposed of in the event of a spillage or if it is judged unsuitable for use as a result of being diluted or contaminated by foreign materials. It should be taken to an approved disposal site by a licensed waste disposal contractor for disposal by controlled release to a WWTP, incineration, or liquid landfill. FireChem foam concentrate is available in different compositions like one, three or six percent. There are adequately seven factors when considering the natural effect of foam concentrates and these elements are of concern when the end-used foam arrangements achieve natural and domestic water systems.
